It’s called South By South Lawn.

It was pretty unusual to have an appearance from the President of the United States of America Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at this year’s South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Streets were closed off, security was heightened and armored cars replaced pedicabs, at least for a while.

Now, all becomes clear – the Obama administration has teamed up with SXSW to hold a smaller scale event at the White House called South By South Lawn. Set for October 3, the festival will have music, interactive and film events – just like SXSW – but it remains to be seen whether Austin’s fleet of high quality food trucks will also be making an appearance.

The White House website confirms, “Musical performances will include well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences,” so we’re assuming Kendrick’s a shoe-in.

If you fancy attending, or know somebody who you think deserves to go, you can nominate yourself or someone else over at the White House website. Just make sure you get your entry in before 5pm ET on September 10. [via Pitchfork]
