Other nominees included Jessy Lanza and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Kaytranada has won this year’s Polaris Music Prize. Now in its 11th year, the annual award is given to the best Canadian full-length album based on merit (genre, record label and sales do not count toward the potential to win) – it’s pretty much like Canada’s Mercury Prize. This year’s shortlist includes plenty of FACT favorites like Grimes, U.S. Girls, Carly Rae Jepsen, White Lung and Jessy Lanza.

Previous winners include Tanya Tagaq’s Animism, Fucked Up’s The Chemistry of Common Life and Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, who said they’d use their prize money to help music education programs in Quebec prisons.
