Surgeon preps second album made in Hawaiian jungle on Editions Mego

The UK techno veteran preps another dive into modular synth bliss.

Anthony Child, best known by his moniker Surgeon, has unveiled a follow-up to last year’s album of synth recordings recorded in the Hawaiian jungle.

As with the first iteration, Electronic Recordings from Maui Jungle Vol 2. features live recordings on the Buchla Music Easel synthesizer with no overdubs. The liner notes also explain that “all environmental sounds simply ‘occurred’ throughout the improvisations”. The release is timely coming shortly after the death of the Music Easel designer Don Buchla.

““I absolutely love it. It’s such an amazing, deep instrument and really inspiring. I still feel like I’m just scratching the surface with it,” Child recently told us in a tribute to Buchla’s work.

Vol. 2 is out December 9 via Editions Mego (who also have a new album by Oren Ambarchi on the way). Though no tracks are available from it yet, you can revisit Vol. 1‘s ‘All Around And Inside’ below.
