Powell brings his “fun and playful” LP to life in Dalston later this week.

Diagonal boss and XL Recordings artist Powell will mark the release of his debut album Sport with a last-minute launch party in London on Thursday (October 13).

Taking place at Club Makossa in Dalston, the party kicks off at 9pm and features a live set from Powell alongside appearances from two close friends and collaborators: Russell Haswell and Lorenzo Senni.

Noise veteran Haswell will bring his modular synth for one of his brain-scrubbing live sets, while trance-loving Italian artist Senni will provide a DJ set. According to XL Recordings, dress code is “sports gear or no entry.”

Tickets for the event can be bought at the freshly launched Powell store, which also includes some Powell-branded sporting goods. Highlights include a “Powell Towell” embroidered with the album’s colours that “attracts people with good taste,” chest expander and wetsuit among the usual T-shirts.

You can also pick up album track ‘Her Face’, “a Powell track you can mix” with “basic 4 x 4 structure for all the newbie DJs” that’s “perfect for a Ray-Ban online session.”

Speaking of the album back in August, Powell said: “It’s not a techno record, a dance album, a ‘no-wave techno’ thing, whatever the fuck that is. It’s just the sound of what goes in my head.

“Also, like sport, I think of this record as being something for mind and body. I mean, you’re shit at sport if you don’t bring both things to it, so yeah, the music is physical and you can dance to it, but I also want to drag people’s brains along for the ride too.”

Watch Powell smash his head into a watermelon in the video for ‘Jonny (ft. Jonny)’ below.
