The venue will reopen almost a year to the day since the terror attacks.

Sting has been booked to perform the first show at the Bataclan in Paris since terrorists stormed the building and killed 89 fans at an Eagles of Death Metal gig on November 13, 2015.

“In reopening the Bataclan, we have two important tasks to reconcile,” Sting said in a statement. “First, to remember and honour those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theatre represents. In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them.”

Proceeds from the show on November 12 will be donated to two charities: Life For Paris and 13onze15.

It was previously reported that Peter Doherty would be the first artist to perform at the reopened venue.

Eagles of Death Metal star in a forthcoming documentary about the Bataclan attack directed by Tom Hanks’ son Colin Hanks. Due to air on HBO next February, Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis follows the band’s return to Paris a month after the attack.

The band’s frontman Jesse Hughes hit headlines again this year after accusing Bataclan staff and security of being involved in a conspiracy. [via Stereogum]
