A week after Trump’s victory, Macklemore responds with fear.

Macklemore has released new track ‘Wednesday Morning’ in response to the results of last week’s US presidential election. It follows his appearance alongside G-Eazy on the remix of YG’s Trump protest song ‘FDT’.

The lyrics are exactly the type of Social Justice 101 rumination we’d expect from the Seattle rapper, but with a little bit less charge than the Jamila Woods-assisted ‘White Privilege II’.

It seems unlikely at this moment in time that Macklemore will have the same pop endurance he had after releasing ‘Thrift Shop’. But his commitment to keeping his core – who he’s acknowledged are mostly people who privilege his music over most other rap – informed of his progressive politics remains intact.
