André 3000’s plea went down a treat with his “baby momma’s momma”.

Erykah Badu has revealed her family’s reaction to Outkast’s hit single ‘Ms. Jackson’. The track, which originally appeared on 2000’s Stankonia, was inspired by the breakdown of André 3000’s relationship with Badu after the birth of their son Seven.

In an interview on the Rap Radar podcast, Badu recalled first hearing the hit single during her recording sessions for Mama’s Gun.

“I still had a kind of sore spot, like I don’t want to hear that, especially when I heard Big Boi’s verse. And then when I heard André’s verse, I felt very good because his verse was really, really inspiring,” she said. “He just told how he felt… and I’ve always respected that and listened to what he felt and appreciated it.”

It turns out her mother, Kolleen Wright – the ‘Ms. Jackson’ to whom the song is addressed – was also a big fan.

“How did my mama feel? Baby, she bought herself a Ms. Jackson licence plate. She had the mug, she had the ink pen, she had the headband, everything. That’s who loved it,” said Badu.

Surprisingly, Badu claims that she’s never talked to her son about the song, but said that Seven, who’s now 19, is “a huge fan of his father and he’s a huge fan of us personally.”

The singer also talked about working with D.R.A.M. on a collaborative EP. “He’s this enigma,” she says of the rapper and singer. “If George Clinton, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and D’Angelo had a baby, that’s D.R.A.M.”
