“He tell us he a genius but it’s clearer lately/It’s been hard for him to look into the mirror lately”

J. Cole will release his surprise-announced album 4 Your Eyez Only next week, but in a preview featured in the album’s new documentary Eyez, he appears to diss Kanye West and Drake on a track titled ‘False Prophets’, MissInfo points out.

“Ego in charge of every move, he’s a star / And we can’t look away due to the days when he caught our hearts,” he raps in one line. “He’s falling apart but we deny it / Justifying the half-assed shit he drop, we always buy it.”

The song questions the rapper when “he tell us he a genius,” something Kanye has done many times, and takes a shot at his entourage (“the women, the dickriders, you know, the yes men”) who he calls “nobody with the balls to say something to contest him”.

Considering the multiple “prophets” in the title, it appears Drake is the target of a later verse criticizing the use of ghostwriters, something the rapper faced controversy for last year.

“Wonder what happened / Maybe it’s my fault for idolizing niggas based off the words that they be rappin’ / But come to find out these niggas don’t even write they own shit / Hear some new style bubbling up then they bite that shit,” he raps.

Stream Eyez exclusively on Tidal and look for J. Cole’s next Friday.
