Part of the narrative of A Tribe Called Quest’s triumphant and prescient We Got It From Here… Thanks 4 Your Service is that not only is it the group’s first album in 18 years, it’s their swan song. “This is our last record, and we’ll probably do a world tour… After that, that’s it, for the rest of our lives,” Q-Tip told Billboard back in November.

And while it may be the last hurrah for A Tribe Called Quest as we know it, in a new interview with Annie Mac, Tip said that the remaining members will ride again:

“Stay tuned for any other incarnation,” he told the BBC Radio 1 host. “We don’t intend on stopping because that was Phife’s M.O. was, like, ‘This time we gotta do it and keep going,’ and now he’s left us with the equation of how do we do it, but we are going to need it, and we’re going to continue.”

Tip also notes that We Got It From Here… felt like closure for the group. Perhaps they’ll start a Tribe-Leaders of the New School supergroup? It wouldn’t be the worst scenario.

Dates and details for the promised world tour have not yet been disclosed, but a posthumous Phife Dawg solo album is planned for 2017.
