The producer says he held back the “bittersweet” song “out of respect.”
Less than two weeks before George Michael’s death on December 25, Beyoncé producer and songwriter Naughty Boy revealed that he was working on the star’s new album. The pair had began putting a track together, thought to be one of the last songs recorded by Michael before he died, which the producer now says he may release.
Naughty Boy, real name Shahid Khan, told BBC Newsbeat yesterday (January 19) that “the song is amazing but it’s just a bit bittersweet.” He said he didn’t speak about the track over Christmas “out of respect,” but has just this last week started work on it again.
Khan added that the as-yet-untitled song with Michael is an original recording, though didn’t clarify whether it was intended as an album track for the late star. As well as working on Michael’s next album, the duo had planned to collaborate on Naughty Boy’s next release.
