The collaboration will premiere at the Grammys this weekend.

Carly Rae Jepsen and Lil Yachty will debut a cover of Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock’s 1988 classic ‘It Takes Two’ at this week’s Grammys. The track was produced by Mike Will and will be featured in a 3-minute commercial for Target.

Jepsen and Yachty’s ad is similar to Gwen Stefani’s Target-sponsored live music video which aired during last year’s awards show, but was pre-filmed by director Roman Coppola with dance moves by La La Land-choreographer Mandy Moore. (This Mandy Moore, not ‘Candy’ Mandy Moore.)

“He was really shy at first, but as soon as we started cooking it was just all giggles the entire shoot,” Jepsen told Entertainment Weekly. “During a lot of the takes, I was just trying not to burst into laughter because of his some impromptu dance moves. He came to life when the whole production started.”

Jepsen admits she was intimidated herself after being approached by Mike Will to write a rap verse for the collaboration — though she prefers to call her contribution “more of a rhythmic girlie moment”.

She also provided a few hints about recording a new album, which she says has many disco-influenced tracks, with Donna Summer as the “inspiration that’s leading the pack”. Though Jepsen is up to 42 songs, she says the album is far from finished.

“I’d say there’s a lot of work left to do, but I’m definitely finding some new sounds for me, which is always the goal,” she said. “To challenge what you did last time, to break some rules, and to discover new places where you want to go musically.”
