A two-part look inside the genre.

Channel 4 has released Pirate Mentality, a new two-part documentary on grime featuring interviews with many of the genre’s founders and innovators including Skepta, Tinchy Stryder, Chip, Kano, Slimzee and more.

While many documentaries on grime have been released recently, Pirate Mentality focuses on the scene’s birth through pirate radio stations and how that mentality helped shape the scene.

The documentary features interviews with JME, Terror Danjah and Tim Westwood, who you can watch above in an exclusive clip. The doc also focuses on Boy Better Know’s MC Frisco and scene pioneer Risky Roadz as the pair discuss keeping the genre’s pirate radio roots as it experiences a global popularity.

Pirate Mentality is available to stream now through Channel 4’s website.
