Similarities between the two songs was documented back in January.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ now has three new songwriter credits: Kandi Burress and Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle, the Xscape members who wrote TLC’s major hit ‘No Scrubs’ and the track producer and Kevin Briggs. The names were recently registered with ASCAP alongside Sheeran and his collaborators, producer Steve Mac and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid.

As the BBC points out, no reason for the addition has been highlighted, but the vocal melody on the ‘Shape of You’ pre-chorus is very similar to the ‘No Scrubs’ hook. Crediting even the most minor resemblances has been a commonplace occurrence since Robin Thicke and Pharrell were sued by the estate of Marvin Gaye over some of the writing on ‘Blurred Lines’ – Sheeran is also presently being sued by the Gaye estate over his own track ‘Thinking Out Loud’.

TLC are slated to perform their very first show in the UK. They’ll be at London’s Koko on May 9. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 24.
