The drone great makes a pop-oriented shift.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma has announced his new album On The Echoing Green will be out this June on Mexican Summer.

The album follows last year’s gorgeous In Summer and is the guitarist’s first album on Mexican Summer since A Year With 13 Moons (one of our top 20 albums of 2015). Today you can hear the 10-minute epic ‘A Song Of Summer’ which offers some surprises.

The first surprise is Argentinian singer-songwriter Sobrenadar, who lends a quality similar to My Bloody Valentine’s Bilinda Butcher over the track’s shoegaze melodies. It’s an example of Cantu-Ledesma’s interest in “more overt pop elements” explored on the album and to invite outside ideas through lengthy improvised jams with collaborators.

As he puts it, On The Echoing Green “feels like spring – things coming alive, blooming, emerging from winter.”
