The Internet‘s Steve Lacy is one of the many exciting contributors to Kendrick Lamar‘s new album DAMN. Now he’s discussed the album and his work on the track ‘PRIDE.’ in a new interview on Beats 1.

Lacy reveals the song was originally called ‘Wasn’t There’ and began as a studio session with frequent Kendrick Lamar-collaborator Anna Wise. It was producer DJ Dahi who introduced Lacy to Lamar, he explains, and the rapper was immediately drawn to the track.

“This was the track where he was like ‘Yo, put your number in my phone I need this,'” he said. “I went there a couple more times to work on some stuff and this song he was just sure about. He loved this one.”
