A sinister, epic slow build.

Parisian DJ and producer Chloé is to release ‘The Dawn’, her first new single in four years, on May 19. It will be the first release on her label Lumière Noire, and the lead single of a third album due in the autumn.

Chloé, whose 2007 debut album The Waiting Room was a criminally underrated masterpiece of dark, unsettling electro, has not released new music since 2013’s Last Gasp EP, instead focusing on her club night at Paris’s Rex Club (also called Lumière Noire). The wait has been worth it, though: ‘The Dawn’ is a brooding ten-minute epic in which paranoid spoken word, sinister oscillations and lush cello build up the tension gradually but relentlessly.

The photography for the single’s artwork comes courtesy of Noémie Goudal, who is described as a “visual-arts analog” to Chloé’s mix of the strange and the beautiful in a press release.

Hear ‘The Dawn’ – which will come backed with a Dixon remix – below.
