PVC-favoring pop fantasist Charli XCX is one of the UK’s biggest stars, has collaborated with everyone from Abra to A.G. Cook, and always brings a sense of fun to the table.

Need proof? Try recent single ‘Boys’ on for size. With its saucy carousel of famous male stars, its video is both playful and packs a message, managing to gloriously satire the tired male gaze of so many mainstream music videos. It plugs into the feminism Charli has championed from her 2015 BBC Three documentary The F-Word and Me, to the time she pulled a tampon from her shorts on stage, and beyond.

Following the release earlier this year of her Number 1 Angel mixtape, which boasted production credits from Danny L Harle, A.G. Cook and Sophie, Charli XCX played a sweaty, packed-out homecoming show at London’s Jazz Cafe in April. We were on hand to capture the energy and mayhem of that night, while gaining a little insight into the UK pop star who says one of her biggest career moments to date was the time Uffie followed her back on Twitter.
