(2011-)

Loderbauer (NSI, Sun Electric, Moritz von Oswald Trio) and Villalobos's double-disc reinterpretation of music from the ECM catalogue was certainly challenging, in length if nothing else, but their combined talents brought warmth and wit to what could have been a very dry, academic project.

(2008-2010)
The true identities of Millie & Andrea were originally "secret", though given the unveiled association with Manchester's Modern Love label, it didn't take a genius to establish that Millie was Miles Whittaker (aka MLZ, and one half of Demdike Stare) and Andrea his old mucker Andy Stott. For this short-lived project, they worked both alone and in partnership, chewing on choice chunks of juke, hardcore jungle, dubstep and techno and spitting out some of the most focussed, future-proof dance music you'll ever hear.

Early reports suggest that Transverse, the debut album from Carter Tutti Void - that's Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti of Chris & Cosey, Carter Tutti and Throbbing Gristle fame, joined by Nik Void of Factory Floor - is a terrific record. It was developed from a live performance given in the Roundhouse's sweatbox theatre as part of last year's Short Circuit festival, and is due out soon on Mute.

Given Burial's reclusive nature, the last thing we expected him to do was step out in collaboration with Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet, but that's exactly what happened in 2009, with the surprise drop of 'Moth'/'Wolf Cub' 12". Two years later they returned, this time joined by Thom Yorke, with the fine but inferior 'Ego'/'Mirror'.

(2009)

Ghost Box co-founder Julian House, aka The Focus Group, had been a friend and foil to Broadcast's James Cargill and Trish Keenan long before the three sat down to collaborate musically. Their artistic sensibilities couldn't have been more closely aligned, and their 2009 Warp album …Investigate Witch Cults Of The Radio Age was, as expected, a masterpiece, rendered all the more poignant by the fact that it will remain, perforce, a one-off - Keenan tragically died last year, a major talent cut down in her prime.

Anthony 'Surgeon' Child and Karl 'Regis' O'Connor had been close associates for over a decade before they decided to join forces and form British Murder Boys. After six 12" releases and countless incendiary live performances ("chicken-in-a-basket techno cabaret", as O'Connor would later call it) they returned, doubtless reinvigorated, to their separate solo paths.
