Againstnature, the 2000 album by Regis and Female, is reissued this week in the form that its makers originally intended.

One of the fiercest yet most accessible works by the Birmingham duo of Karl O’Connor and Peter Sutton, Againstnature was originally released under the producers’ own names through Berlin label Tresor. Taking its title from Joris-Karl Huysmans’ 1884 celebration of the decadent life, A Rebours, the album combined pounding dancefloor material with ominous, ambient-leaning tracks that harked back to more exploratory offerings of late 70s and early 80s post-punk.

O’Connor and Sutton were unhappy with the way the album was tweaked by Tresor for release, and so comes this re-edited and sequenced tenth anniversary reissue on O’Connor’s Downwards label, subtitled 11 Reclaimed Fragments, and honouring the producers’ original vision to the letter. Pressed on clear double-vinyl and packaged in a sleeve with brand new artwork, including photo insert, it’s the definitive edition of an all-time classic techno album.
