Queen guitarist Brian May has confirmed plans for a live stage appearance from the band’s deceased singer, Freddie Mercury.

As readers doubtless know, at Coachella this year Tupac Shakur was resurrected in hologram form to perform with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. May, in an interview with the BBC, has now claimed that “It’s a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we’ve been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while”, though he emphasises that unlike Pac, this won’t be a hologram, as “for a show that runs eight shows a week [We Will Rock You] it’s not really quite practical.”

“People will come out saying, ‘did we actually see Freddie?'”, May continued, referring to the technique as an “optical illusion of sorts.”

The planned resurrection will mark 10 years of Queen’s West End Musical We Will Rock You, though the group’s Roger Taylor doesn’t appear so keen. In an interview with Billboard, he recently claimed that “I don’t want to appear with a hologram of my dear friend. It’s the real one or no hologram for me.”

Which begs the obvious question: who’s next?
