Jay Reatard documentary coming to DVD with book, LP of rarities

The documentary package will be released by Factory 25 on December 18.

Better Than Something is a documentary about the late Memphis musician Jimmy ‘Jay’ Lindsey Jr, better known as Jay Reatard. In 2010, the garage punk firebrand died in his sleep, aged 29.

Directed by Alex Hammond and Ian Markiewicz, the documentary has been described as an “eerily prescient” look at the tragic death of the young musician.

Accompanying the DVD release are a 14-track vinyl LP of Reatard rarities and a 50 page book. The book includes essays by contemporaries TV Smith (Adverts), Cole Alexander (Black Lips), King Khan, and Alicja Trout, an unreleased interview with Reatard, and never before seen photos. The film’s trailer and the LP tracklist are below, along with a look at the entire package. [via Pitchfork]
