Rare groove label The Numero Group will explore unusually occult territory in a surprise new reissue.

For context, The Numero Group’s most recent acquisition was a rare release from possible Prince collaborators The Lewis Connection. It’s a surprise, then, to see the imprint venture into the world of black metal with an arcane release from long-forgotten band Medusa.

First Step Beyond will collect remastered versions of all of the Chicago band’s extant material. It’s a seriously slim body of work: the LP only runs to seven tracks, all of which were recorded to four-track tape back in 1975 (and were subsequently rescued from the drummer’s basement).

First Step Beyond will arrive on 180g vinyl, encased in mock-velvet and printed in gold and red. Scuzzy/silly lead track ‘Strangulation’ is available to headbang to below. A mini album trailer is also below, which promises a “psychedelic sorcerer mind fuck” – which sounds alright by us.
