A second bit of Exorcist news this week.

The legend goes that Lalo Schifrin’s original score for The Exorcist was so terrifying that the original six minutes he had given director William Friedkin was too terrifying – so much so that when Warner Brothers requested the composition be toned down, Friedkin decided to just throw the entire thing away in the studio parking lot.

Fortunately for horror junkies and fans of the Argentine pianoist alike – Schifrin is famous for penning the Mission: Impossible television theme, all of the music for Dirty Harry and the incredible score of THX 1138, among other things – Waxwork is releasing the original, intact score on vinyl.

Waxwork is already having a banner year for film score reissues, having already announced vinyl releases of The Warriors and Taxi Driver. There are more details for The Exorcist to follow and the label has teased “another, very special vinyl release to accompany on the way.”

Earlier this week, it was announced that Fox will be airing a television adaptation of The Exorcist this fall starring A League of Their Own and Thelma & Louise actress Geena Davis. Few details of the show have been released, but it will skew from the 70s film by following two different men trying to combat a demonic possession of the same family.
