The raids follow the discovery of €2 million in cash hidden in Amnesia earlier this week.

Space and Privilege are the latest venues to be searched by Spanish police in an ongoing crackdown on the finances of clubs in the country, local news outlet Diario de Ibiza reports.

According to reports, police entered both buildings at 6am this morning (July 8) along with officials from Spain’s national tax agency (AEAT) as part of Operation Chopin, an investigation into potential fraud in Spanish nightclubs.

The raid of Space and Privilege follows the search of Ibiza club Amnesia earlier this week, where police reportedly found €2 million in cash hidden in compartments throughout the club. Police used mallets and pick axes to smash open walls in the venue.

Police have been searching 87 clubs across the country in response to “alleged crimes against the Treasury” since July 5. The homes of suspects involved, safety deposit boxes and bank accounts have also been searched in connection with the investigation.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo reports that the four men arrested in connection with the Amnesia case, including owner Martin Ferrer, were given conditional release yesterday (July 7). The suspects have been forced to hand over their passports. [via RA]
