Download: Disrupt vs Actress – Hail The Robots
(Available for seven days)

Our first Daily Download for 2010 is a scorching collaboration between Actress and Disrupt.

Actress should require scant introduction by now. As boss of Werk Discs, he’s introduced us to some of the most innovative and individualist electronic music of recent years, releasing Lukid’s Foma and Zomby’s Where Were U in ’92 among other game-changing records. What’s more, he’s become one of the most respected producers around – his 2008 LP Hazyville was one of FACT’s favourite of the noughties, and its eagerly awaited follow-up will drop on Honest Jon’s later this year.

Disrupt, meanwhile, is the alter ego of Jan Gleichmar. Along with his stable of Jahtari artists, Gleichmar has developed a unique and remorselessly heavy take on digi-dub and smoked-out dancehall. His album Foundation Bit was released through Werk Discs in 2007 and is a certified genre classic, teaming stomach-turning bass frequencies with saturated 8-bit melodies and samples of everything from Alien to LFO’s ‘We Are Back’.

‘Hail The Robots’ was offered to us by Actress, with minimal information about its origins. It’s an incredible fusion of his claustrophobically funky techno sound and the computer-skank leanings of Disrupt, and as far as we can tell, it’s never been previously released. We hardly need add that you should get it quick.
