Ninja Tune announced yesterday the signing of Toddla T on a three-album deal.

The Sheffield yout, who arrived on radars in 2008 (or was it 2007? It’s all a bit of a blur) with his superb free mixtape Ghettoblaster #1, has curated a Fabric mix CD and released several killer singles that combine Sheffield’s bleep history with his own ragga-tinged tastes. He also released an often excellent debut album last year, Skanky Skanky.

He’s worked with Tinchy Stryder, Roots Manuva, Switch, Diplo and more now, but also stays true to his roots, collaborating most with hometown MC Serocee.

Anyway, his next album will come via Ninja Tune, as will the two that follow. The label have signed Toddla for three albums, and their sister company Just Isn’t Music takes control of his publishing. Ninja will also assist with distribution, manufacture and marketing for Toddla’s own Girls Music imprint.

Toddla’s words yesterday: “I’m so happy with signing with Ninja. Not only have they got a ridiculously good background but they’re such good people and so enthused by me joining. I’m really looking foward to getting stuck into the next album with them as well as working on my Girls Music label alongside them. Dutty!”

Company man, innit.
