Having recently celebrated the return of the producer’s long-lost record collection, J Dilla’s family are now muscling into the business with an imprint of their own.

According to AllHipHop, Dilla’s mother Maureen Yancey will serve as the CEO of Ruff Draft Records. The label will release previously unheard music by the legendary Detroit producer.

Yancey stated that the label will also release material from new artists ploughing a similar furrow to her son. “I’m a hip-hop head and I love it…We want to make it more feasible to interact with these children, we don’t know how many J Dilla’s we have out there. Somebody has to find them.”

Ruff Draft are set to reveal themselves to the world on May 25 with an event in honour of Dilla’s new Rebirth Of Detroit record. Guilty Simpson, Waajeed and Bishop Lamont are all set to perform at the night. A limited 10″ vinyl copy of the Danny Brown-featuring ‘Jay Dee’s Revenge’ will also see release on the day.
