Drum technician killed at Toronto Radiohead gig

Update: the band have now released a statement about this weekend’s tragic events. Drummer Philip Selway posted the following message to the band’s official website yesterday: “We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.”

A drum technician has died after the stage collapsed before Radiohead’s gig at Toronto Downsview Park last night.

The BBC have reported the victim as 33-year old Scott Johnson from Doncaster, England. As well as Radiohead, he worked with Keane, White Lies and other British bands. Three others were injured in the collapse – one seriously. As well as a full report, the BBC link above features a video of Toronto police explaining how the collapse happened.

Pitchfork point out a fan-shot image of the collapse – as seen above. The show was, it goes without saying, cancelled.
