FACT mix DJ Zinc

Does DJ Zinc even need an introduction at this point?

Born Benjamin Pettit, the London-based DJ and producer has been releasing records since the mid-1990s. 1995′s ‘Super Sharp Shooter’, later re-released under the Ganja Cru banner (Zinc plus close affiliates DJ Hype and Pascal) is pretty much the definitive jungle anthem, while other releases came through labels like True Playaz and Frontline.

Then, at the turn of the noughties, Zinc switched things up, releasing a series of classic “breakbeat garage” records under his own name and aliases – the most famous being 2000′s ’138 Trek’ – that ramped up garage, predicted grime and have basically never been beaten. And in case that wasn’t enough, the steady supply of releases since have included some of the UK underground’s greatest recent pop moments: 2009′s No Lay-featuring ‘Killa Sound’ a warning shot for the close-to-perfect ‘Wile Out’, released the next year and featuring one of Ms Dynamite’s most memorable vocal performances.

Zinc’s long-overdue FACT mix comes on the eve of Rinse FM’s imminent birthday celebrations at both London’s Brixton Academy and Manchester‘s Warehouse Project, and sees Zinc mix up plenty of his own productions – the mix comes subtitled as his “September Crack House Mix” with acapellas from Dynamite, JME and more, and loftier fare from Joy Orbison and Julio Bashmore.
