Ramp sub-label Brainmath’s next release will come from minimal house supremo Lowtec

Since 2008, Brainmath have been dripfeeding out rewarding, quirkily packaged releaeses with a focus on leftfield UK-based producers. Their A&R game has always been strong, with discs arriving from the likes of James Blake, Zomby and SBTRKT early on in their respective careers. Following on from last year’s neat retrospective Brainmaths Vol. 1the label’s first release of 2013 will arrive from Jens Kuhn, aka Lowtec.

Kuhn is probably most celebrated for his role as a founder member of German minimal label Workshop, home to a string of untitled releases from Kassem Mosse, Move D and Madteo. His production career, however, stretches back much further, including a mid 1990s 12″  for Source Records under the System 360 moniker. He’s released the lush Secret Corner LP on Source in 2002, and has turned out a rash of thoughtful minimal singles for the likes of Playhouse and Out To Lunch. More recently, he made his Nonplus debut with 2011’s Coldred 12″, notable for the off-kilter, knock-kneed B side ‘Darrynane’.

The Port Carbon EP boasts five new tracks from the producer. Lead track ‘Carbon Copy’ – a faintly twee microhouse number with all the roar of a sugar mouse – is available to stream over at the Brainmath websitePort Carbon will be available on 2×10″ next week, with CD and digital versions set for release in Arpil.
