Legendary producer J Dilla has his hallowed record collection unearthed in a special edition of Fuse’s Crate Diggers documentary series.

Mostly hosted by Dilla’s mom, Ma Dukes herself Maureen Yancey, the documentary ropes in DJ Spinna, J.Rocc, Talib Kweli and others to comment on the life and history of the producer, and smartly allows the producer’s record obsession to help tell his story.

Obsessively hunting through Detroit’s record shops where Dilla used to dig, and then arriving at the obligatory lockup that houses what’s left of his incredible collection, this is a surprisingly subtle and warm portrait of one of the most important beat makers of our time and we reckon essential viewing for fans and newcomers alike.
