Jay-Z‘s Magna Carta Holy Grail might not have been the grand statement we all wanted it to be, but despite this it seems to continue to achieve the impossible. Even though plenty of listeners had already got to hear the album via the controversial (and possibly illegal) Samsung app, the album still managed to break streaming service Spotify‘s record last week for “biggest first week in Spotify history” with a mammoth 14 million streams.

This wasn’t all either, the album also notched up the record for the most streams per day, proof that despite the naysayers, Jay-Z is still the meteoric draw he predicted he would be.

Sadly it’s not all good news for Spotify right now, the company came under fire from Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich this week for not paying enough to new artists. [via HipHop DX]
