Ninja Tune regular Bonobo, last heard traversing The North Borders, is about to drop his addition to the long-running LateNightTales mix CD series.

The 21-track set promises a middle ground between vintage fare (Nina Simone, Dorando) and more contemporary beat music – Floating Points, Lapalux, Shlohmo and Airhead all feature. As with previous curators, Simon Green and band have recorded a special cover version for the set, and it’s available to stream exclusively below.

The track in question is Donovan’s lilting ‘Get Thy Bearings’, taken from his 1968 album The Hurdy Gurdy Man. Smouldering and low-slung, it’s a natural fit for Green, and so it’s not surprising that Bonobo’s take is fairly deferential. The new version adds a musky, jazzy quality to the original, and replaces Donovan’s part with a honey-smooth female vocal, making for a more languid reading.

LateNightTales drops on November 17.
