Thurston Moore to release solo 7" inspired by Stoke Newington activists; supporting Lee Ranaldo in London next week

U.S. avant-rock icon reveals transatlantic adventures.

A minor flurry of activity from Thurston Moore in the wake of Sonic Youth’s post-divorce dissolution suggests the frontman has effectively relocated to the UK, with a 7″ coming out on London label Blank Editions next year and a gig lined up under the straightforward moniker Thurston Moore UK.

It may well be a legal issue related to record contracts he’s tied into under his own name, but either way it represents an interesting shift for one of the most important figures of America’s alternative music scene over the past 30 years.

The new single, out on Blank Editions, comprises A-side ‘Detonation’, a homage to libertarian and communitarian activists from the Stoke Newington area of London, and B-side ‘Germs Burn’, a celebration of “punk rock secret society love”.

Recorded and mixed in London last month, the single will be available in February 2014 in a numbered edition of 500 copies, with art direction and design by Ecstatic Peace Library. Moore’s record is the fifth release in Blank Editions’ Solo Series of limited edition 7″s, following a recent record from Blurt founder Ted Milton.

Playing under the name Thurston Moore UK, Moore will support his SY bandmate Lee Ranaldo and his band The Dust at The Garage in London next Thursday, November 21.

Earlier this year Moore collaborated on an album with experimental guitarist Loren Connors, releasing The Only Way To Go Is Straight Through on Record Store Day in April.
