Industrial innovators Godflesh announce first release in over a decade

An EP is due next month, with a new album to follow.

Last fall, Justin Broadrick got the band back together for a run of US tour dates. Now, the band has announced plans for a new EP, Decline & Fall, due out on May 26 via Broadrick’s Avalanche Recordings. The four-track EP will include two Japan-only bonus tracks.

Godflesh’s most recent album was 2001′s Hymns, which was reissued last year. Previously, Broadrick teased a forthcoming album, tentatively titled A World Lit Only By Fire and due in September.

“It will be [musically] similar to the first two or three [Godflesh albums]. I just think, like we’re playing these shows, we feel very pure about we’re doing and honoring the initial intentions with what we originally set out to do,” he said. “It will definitely sound aggressive and it probably won’t sound like any of the other records we’ve made, but it will have the minimalism of the first few records.”

We spoke with Broadrick back in 2010 about Godflesh’s resurrection, his Pale Sketcher project and more. Godflesh’s 1989 classic Streetcleaner was near the top of FACT’s Best Albums of the 1980s. [via Blabbermouth]
