Ryan Hemsworth launches Secret Songs series with Tennyson’s ebullient ‘You’re Cute’

The first offering from the producer’s new freebie series is by a fellow Canadian.

Rather than get into the crowded artist-run label game, Ryan Hemsworth has launched Secret Songs, a Soundcloud-based venture that will drop a free track by an up-and-coming producer every two weeks.

“Secret Songs isn’t a label or blog,” he writes. “Just an outlet I can use to share music I love and believe in directly with people who want to discover something new. It’s about two things: inclusion and discovery. For those curious but who might not have the connections to find the weirder, lesser known artists.”

“I want it to give people the feeling I get when a producer emails me a zip of 20 unreleased songs they’ve made this month that are all amazing,” he continues. First up: Edmonton, Alberta newcomer Tennyson, whose ‘You’re Cute’ is “about missing her, cold beaches, kittens, running hugs, calculus and fruit salad” — sounds like a perfect fit.
