The nominees for the fourth annual AIM Independent Music Awards were announces last night at Red Bull Studios London.
Tasteful pop trio London Grammar lead the way with four nominations, including Best Live Act and Independent Breakthrough of The Year, while Arctic Monkeys, Bonobo, Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip, FKA twigs, Future Islands and tUnE-yArDs all received two nominations.
Because Music, Domino, Fearless Records, Hospital Records, Ninja Tune and Secretly Group are all nominated for Independent Label Of The Year, while the Best Small Label award will be contested by Kissability, Marshall Teller Records, National Anthem, Sonic Cathedral and Hyperdub, whose own Kode9 has already been awarded AIM’s newly launched Innovator Award.
Among the rest of the awards is an interesting one for Special Catalogue Release of the Year, where nominees include Cabaret Voltaire’s Collected Works 1983 – 1985, the Nightmares on Wax compilation N.O.W. Is The Time and Numero Group’s excellent Purple Snow compilation of pre-Prince funk and rock from Minneapolis.
