Kanye West is working on an "immersive" feature length film

The project reportedly “involves both cinematic and technological innovation.”

A newly-leaked series of emails between Sony executives and representatives of Kanye West reveal that the Chicago rapper is working on a feature length film.

In an email dated August 4, 2014, West’s creative assistant Elon Rutberg pitched the project to Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal: “I supervise all of Kanye’s film and media projects, and we have a major film project coming up that involves both cinematic and technological innovation, so I naturally thought Sony and wanted to reach out,” wrote Rutberg.

“We premiered a multi-screen cinema experience to great response at Cannes 2012, and are looking to take the storytelling to the next level with a feature length film, shot for an immersive cinema experience.”

Back in 2012, Kanye West screened his Cruel Summer short film at the Cannes Film Festival. Cruel Summer was a seven-screen art installation and received largely positive praise.

A separate email dated August 17 reveals Kanye will also have a director’s role in director Jonathan Levine’s upcoming Christmas Eve film. That film is due next year and will star Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Last week, Rogen revealed that West once rapped to him for two hours straight in the back of a van. [via Consequence of Sound]
