The sampling provocateur returns to the dancefloor.

The new album from Matthew Herbert, entitled The Shakes, is being billed a follow-up to 2006’s Scale, an album of dance music for Studio !K7.

“We are over the moon to be working with such an incredibly unique talent as Matthew,” says Michael Roe of Caroline International, the label that will release The Shakes. “He embodies the true sense of the word artist and has produced a body of music that has not been off the hi-fi at Caroline since we got it.”

For a preview of the album, Herbert will head to London’s Village Underground on March 17 alongside collaborators Ade Omotayo and Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne. The show, planned with playwright Duncan Macmillan, is said to “premiere a new technique for sourcing sounds from the audience.” [via RA]

Back in 2013, FACT’s Angus Finlayson caught up with Herbert to talk detractors, dance culture, and the “intellectual dead end” down which much electronic music is headed.
