The pianist and composer’s new album features several collaborators and will be out this May.

Pianist Rachel Grimes is best known as one of the founding members of the innovative chamber music group Rachel’s and has continued developing her arrangement skills with her solo work. Later this spring Grimes will release The Clearing a new album that features neoclassical compositions built around improvisation.

We’ve previously heard the jazz-inflected ‘The Herald‘ and now you can hear the brief, beautiful string based piece ‘The Air In Time’ which features Scott Moore on viola and Loscil (whose recent EP we featured among January’s best bandcamp releases) on sound design. Grimes commented to us about his involvement.

“I’m a huge fan of LOSCIL and the quality and depth of his sound. I asked him to help bring that added dimension to the ‘Airs’ which weave the larger pieces of the album together. The ‘Air in Time’ and all the ‘Airs’ on the record reflect the natural elements of air and sky.”
