Back in the days when I was a teenager…

French producer Onra has never shied from the influence of 1990s hip-hop and r&b on his work. Since emerging in the late 2000s, amidst the wave of worldwide producers attached to the beat scene, the Parisian has carved a niche by skillfully blending classic touches with modern flair.

In May this year he returns to his home on All City Records, the Dublin-based label and record shop, for his third album, Fundamentals.

Perhaps more than any other releases so far, Fundamentals sees the producer pay full hommage to his roots with 13 cuts soaked in the golden era vibes that inspired him and so many others.

According to the label the album is “far more than the sum of its influences, it’s a retro futuristic sound looking back but thinking forward.”

Fundamentals includes a line up of collaborators spanning generations from young Harlem rapper MC Perrion to the Cool Kids’ Chuck Inglish, Olivier DaySoul, Tha Dogg Pound’s Daz Dillinger and Detroit’s Black Milk.

The album is slated for release on May 15 for digital formats and June 1 for vinyl with a 12″ single preceding that. You can view the artwork and tracklist below and pre-order it on iTunes.

While we await offical previews you can get familiar with the source material and inspiration for the album by revisiting Onra and Lexis’ Throw Em Up mix series, which saw the pair indulge in their love of mid-90s r&b classics.
