Hear the first chapter of the title track to Prurient‘s most ambitious album.

The previous songs we heard from Dominick Fernow‘s upcoming double album Frozen Niagara Falls showed the wide range of sounds he would explore over its 90+ minutes. ‘Dragonflies To Sew You Up’ took pounding drums and enraged howls only to suture them together with a tender, contemplative piano melody. Meanwhile ‘Greenpoint’ built a hopelessly bleak spoken word narrative over a noise epic which opened with the kind of chillingly beautiful acoustic guitars that bring to mind Fernow’s Profound Lore labelmates, Agalloch.

Now we have another piece to the puzzle in the title track and technically it’s not even the full song. ‘Frozen Niagara Falls’ — the song, that is — is actually split into two pieces. This first section is one of the densest moments on the album, a point where Fernow is drowning in so much noise he’s unintelligible, yet his presence is overwhelmingly felt. It’s a song that sounds like its surreal title, and leaves one anxiously wondering what will happen when he returns to it for ‘Section 2’ in the albums devastating finale.

Listen to ‘Frozen Niagara Falls (Portion One)’ below and look for the album May 18 via Profound Lore.
