A new series is announced on what would have been Sun Ra’s 101st birthday.

The Manimal Group will reissue a series of Sun Ra recordings, a project that is being overseen by Sun Ra LLC administrator Irwin Chusid and Sun Ra Music Archiver Michael D. Anderson.

Billboard reports that the releases include a set of recordings from the basement of the Choreographers Workshop (where Sun Ra recorded in the early 60s), an exotica collection spanning his career, and a series of singles compiled by Anderson.

The series includes music from the reissues that were released last year. In addition, the Sun Ra LLC have partnered with the Virtual Label to release Sun Ra’s catalog on CD and LP later this year.

Last year, Mr Beatnik interviewed Peter Dennett, the space-jazz supremo’s chief archaeologist.
