After 20 years and 28 series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, the BBC has pulled the plug on the music quiz show.

The show launched in 1996, and was originally presented by Mark Lamarr. He was followed by Simon Amstell, who provoked some of the show’s most memorable moments, including the Ordinary Boys’ singer Preston walking out mid-show, and Huey Morgan smashing a mug in an all-time classic wobbly.

Buzzcocks’ regular cast has included Phil Jupitus, Bill Bailey and Neo Fiedling in its time, and was presented by Rhod Gilbert in its final days.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “After 28 series we’ve decided not to bring Never Mind the Buzzcocks back to the BBC. This will create space for new entertainment formats in the future. We’d like to thank the team at Talkback, Rhod Gilbert, all the brilliant hosts over the years and of course Noel and Phill for the years of enjoyment they’ve given BBC2 viewers.”
