Modern funk master shares first album in six years.

Dam-Funk’s new album Invite the Light (which he first teased back in 2012) will be released via Stones Throw on September 4. The album is described as his first fully-realised effort, a “concise, beginning-to-end vision.” Invite the Light is now available to stream in full ahead of its release next week.

As always, Dam-Funk will live up to his name on the new LP. “Funk is the underdog, the black sheep of black music,” he says. “Funk is not just a Jheri Curl. There was more than that.” Along with handling production, he’s enlisted quite the list of collaborators: Q-Tip, Snoop, Ariel Pink, Ohio Players’ original Junie Morrison, and father-son duo Leon Sylvers III and Leon Sylvers IV.
