The supermarket is looking to capitalise on the resurgence of the format.

UK supermarket Tesco is getting into the vinyl business, with Iron Maiden’s new album The Book Of Souls being made available in the store as part of a special promotion.

As Music Business Worldwide reports, the album will be available in 55 of the chain’s large out-of-town Tesco Extra stores when it goes on sale on September 4.

Tesco music buyer Michael Mulligan said: “In the last year we began selling record decks in our largest stores and initial sales are very encouraging so giving our customers some new vinyl to play on those decks seems like the logical next step.

“If this trial is a success then we would consider selling more vinyl albums before the end of the year.”

Tesco is also aiming to entice Iron Maiden fans through the doors with a concurrent promotion on the band’s very own Trooper brand of beer.

Tesco isn’t the only massive retailer to get into the vinyl game of late – it recently emerged that Amazon was planning the most pointless series of vinyl reissues ever.
