The 60-speaker system arrives in January.

London’s Ministry of Sound will be the first club in the world to receive a multi-channel Dolby Atmos soundsystem.

The audio company recently announced it was bringing its Dolby Atmos system usually only found in cinemas into nightclubs. Dolby has created a panning plug-in to let producers prepare music for the system, while DJs will be able to make use of an app for mixing on Atmos systems.

As RA reports, the first system of its kind will be installed in The Box (the main room at Ministry of Sound) and unveiled on January 23, 2016. The system features 60 speakers carrying audio from 22 channels, and will be built on top of the existing rig. The system will be launched with a Hospital Records showcase, and will be joined by a “bespoke lighting environment”.

Dolby Atmos isn’t the only multi-channel soundsystem aiming for the club environment – over the past few years Amsterdam company 4DSOUND has been showing off its own solution.
