The New Zealand quartet make their biggest pop music yet after opening stadiums for Lorde.

As Yumi Zouma finally release their debut album this month, it marks the end of a long road for the young band. The group grew a dedicated following on the strength of their debut single ‘The Brae’ in 2014, including ‘Royals’ singer Lorde. She invited the up-and-comers to open on a leg of the same tour in which she also championed Majical Cloudz.

The arena experience must have influenced Yumi Zouma because on their new single they’ve clearly learned how to play to the back. ‘Short Truth’ hits stadium synth-pop leaps that wouldn’t sound out of place from M83 or Chvrches, but in the midst of all the bombast lead singer Christie Simpson maintains the tender intimacy that made them so endearing to begin with.
