2016 is on track to bring the most revenue since the mid-2000s.

The music industry is finally starting to rebound in 2016 and according to new RIAA statistics, streaming is why.

As The Verge finds, the first half of 2016 has seen over $1 billion come from paid streaming subscriptions alone. At the halfway point, it nearly reaches 2015’s overall $1.2 billion. It’s not unexpected, as paid subscriptions have grown to 18.6 million, nearly double what they were a year ago.

Physical media meanwhile has continued to decline and even 2015’s soaring vinyl sales have dipped back down 9%. Although that might be a good thing in the long run.
