From the new anthology film XX.

Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, is one of four directors to contribute to the horror anthology film XX out today. Now you can watch a new clip from her short The Birthday Party.

The hypnotic clip features the main character watching children in costume at the titular party. Clark builds tension out eerie music, slo-mo dancing and a particularly eerie panda costume.

In our recent interview, Clark said the short film was based on a true story a friend told her, albeit in a “very, very, very, very abstracted” way.

“It’s the idea of waking up with a death in the house and making a split-second decision to try and protect your children for as long as you possibly can,” she said.
